Grahamstown, South Africa - February 2006

Pages From the Team Journal in Grahamstown

Day Two - City of Saints or Capital of Devil Worship?

We are about to begin our training for the local church teams here in Grahamstown, South Africa.  On Monday we will begin the evangelism side of things with a prayer walk down the central streets of the city.

City of Saints

Grahamstown has been called the "City of Saints".  It is the first place Christian missionaries landed when they arrived on this part of South Africa.  From the name it sounds as if this city was once a vibrant center for the Christian faith.  There has been a lot of work here by and in the churches.  The pastors are excited about the campaign and have been working very hard under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Eddie.

Capital of Devil Worship

One of Grahamstown's other aliases is as a secondary "Capital of Devil Worship", and apparently there are a lot of these black arts practitioners located here.  What a contrast in names!  However, we are lifting up Jesus and confronting the darkness so that Jesus will draw men and women to Himself.  What a gracious Saviour He is!

Through your prayers and our obedience we will see strongholds pulled down in this place.  Today I am going to invest in teaching the saints so they can rise up and do evangelism throughout the cityscape.  We pray for the overcoming power of Jesus to rest on us and on you today.

Many thanks for powerful prayers.

Yours in the City for Christ,

Julie
